Fees and funding
Do you accept residents whose fees are paid by social services?
Yes, we have rooms available for residents funded by their local authority.
Do you charge extra for laundry?
No, our fees are fully inclusive. The only extra charges are for personal items such as newspapers, hairdressing, toiletries, social outings and holidays.
Can I get to my pocket money when I need it?
Yes, during office hours, or at any time outside office hours, as a safe key holder can be contacted.
Care and health
Do you admit residents who have dementia or confusion?
We do, as long as they are over 65 years of age.
Can you help residents with continence problems?
Yes. We use pads and other aids as needed, and all our residents are assessed by trained continence advisors.
Can I keep my GP?
Yes, if your GP agrees. If not, there are local GPs for you to choose from.
What happens if a resident has a doctor's or hospital appointment?
We first offer the family the chance to go with the resident. If they are unable to, a member of our staff will go with them.
Do you provide transport for hospital appointments?
No, but we will arrange a car or an ambulance through the GP.
What happens if I need to go to hospital in the middle of the night?
We have staff who work through the night. We also provide an on-call service if the resident's family cannot go with them to hospital. This should be agreed before the resident moves in.
Do you offer optical services?
Yes, an optical service visits the home once a year.
Do you have a chiropodist?
Yes, a chiropodist visits the home every two months. Please check with the manager for charges.
Can I get dental care?
Yes, you can, whenever you need it.
Daily life
Do you offer social activities?
We have an activities person four afternoons a week. We also put on social evenings, outings and holidays for residents who are able to go.
Do you have a hairdresser?
Yes, a hairdresser visits the home once a fortnight, or more often when needed. Please check with the manager for details.
Can a resident have a television in their room?
Yes, all our rooms have a point for a television.
Can a resident make phone calls?
Yes. There is a pay phone in the home, or residents can have their own telephone in their room, which they pay for.
Do you allow smoking?
No, Cedar House is a non-smoking building.
Can residents personalise their rooms?
Yes. Residents and relatives are welcome to decorate and furnish the bedroom to their own taste.
Visiting
Can friends and family visit?
Yes, there are no time restrictions. Your visitors are welcome at any time.
Do you allow pets?
Pets are welcome to visit the home, as long as the residents are happy with it.
Is the home accessible?
Yes, Cedar House has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and car park.
Where is Cedar House?
At 249-251 Southend Road, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex SS17 7AB, in a residential area within walking distance of Corringham and Stanford-le-Hope town centres.
